Minerva Lopez

Waterbury - Minerva Correa de Lopez "Minnie", was born March 9, 1934 in Puerto Rico with 15 siblings. Minnie entered into heaven peacefully at home in Waterbury, CT surrounded by her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren on August 13, 2020.

Minnie graduated from The Catholic University of Ponce Puerto Rico with a Master’s in Education. She taught 3rd grade for 20 years in the Maricao Public School system. Then she moved on and was one of the first teachers that taught in the Head Start program for young children in Puerto Rico. Minnie retired as a teacher after 27 years and opened her own successful business in Vega Alta P.R. which she managed for 12 years and then sold in 1983 to relocate to CT.

One of her passions was to travel. She travelled the world from the Philippines to all of South America, Italy, Austria, Spain and many other countries.

She was beautiful, tall and elegant. She loved making us laugh with her wittiness. She was very giving, a great listener and always gave the best advice. As a wife she was his soulmate, as a mother she gave her all. She loved all her family, friends and students.

For many years and together with her husband they were Minister’s of the Eucharist for St. Margaret's Church in Waterbury, CT.

Minnie was pre-deceased by her parents Narciso and Candelaria Correa and many brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Jesus M. Lopez, he siblings: Manfredo, Lupin and Noemi. Her children: Maria De Vico and husband Angelo, Martin Lopez and wife Teresa and Floragnes Ziegler and husband Dustin. Her Grandchildren Ahmad and his wife Lauren, John and his wife Heather, Arman and his wife Melissa, Johnell, Rey, Ashley, Ariana and Tommy. And her great grandkids: Jon G., Gabriella, Johnell J., Everly R. and Leila (arriving 12/2020). Her sister in Law Millie Erbs and her family and over 70 nieces and nephews.

She will be truly missed. She will forever be in our hearts watching us from above and hugging and kissing us via her husband Jesus, the love of her life.

Thank you to all family members including all the agencies, nurses, aides and friends that helped us care for mom these last few years.
On Thursday, August 20th, at 930 A.M., the family will have a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, S. Main St. Waterbury, followed by a private service in St. Peter’s Mausoleum in Torrington, CT., where she will be laid to rest.
