Mr Qemal LamiJune 10, 1928 ~ November 27, 2017 (age 89)
Wolcott – Mr. Qemal Lami, 89, passed away on Monday evening, November 27, at his daughter’s home in Southington. He was the husband of Luzia (Habel) Lami.
Qemal was born June 10, 1928 in Bitincke, Albania, son of the late Ismail and Zenep (Shehu) Lami. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 from Germany after leaving communist controlled Albania. He had been employed for over thirty years as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney. He will be remembered most for serving as Imam, following his father, at the Albanian-American Muslim Community of Waterbury for over 45 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Michael Lami of New Britain, Ibrahim Lami of Colchester, Matthew Lami of Wolcott and Alan Lami of St. Augustine, FL; two daughters, Miriam Yusov of Wolcott and Sandy Lami-Jahr of Southington and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 1, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Bergin Funeral Home 290 East Main St. Waterbury. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home, with burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
