Valerie R. Rizio

Manager/Funeral Director | Prearrangement Director

Valerie Rose (Leo) Rizio, a Connecticut native, began her career as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer at Bergin Funeral Home, Lyons Funeral Home, and Woodtick Memorial in 2013, working for D. Scott Griffith, former manager. Upon Scott’s relocation to Fuller Funeral Home, Naples, Florida, Valerie has become manager of Bergin and Lyons Funeral Home.

Valerie graduated New England Institute of Funeral Service, in Newton, Massachusetts graduating cum laude and was awarded an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences.

Over the years of serving families in their time of need, Valerie continually strives to ensure each family that walks through the door is treated with the same care and compassion she would provide to her own family. Offering personalized services to accommodate each individual family’s needs, she encourages open communication to discover the unique and varying needs to assist each family through the loss.

The effect of each individual loss is unique to each person, and what provides a sense of comfort for some, can have an opposite effect in others. Through the process of planning funeral services, from the simple to elaborate, Valerie will navigate compassionately, providing a thoughtful tribute honoring your loved one.

Valerie also consults families in prearrangements, offering funeral insurance plans as a licensed insurance agent.

Valerie lives in Southbury with her husband, Antonio; three children, Logan, Alyssa, Ivan; and Chow Chow, Ludo. Valerie is a very active Military spouse supporting Antonio’s obligations as a Navy Commander assigned to the New London, Connecticut Navy Base. She is an advocate for Donate Life CT as 17 people on average in the U.S. die each day waiting on a transplant. Aside from activities with her family, Valerie enjoys the outdoors, gardening, and antique shopping.

The core concepts of Valerie’s motivations as the Manager of Bergin and Lyons Funeral Homes are attention to detail and serving families with dignity and respect.
